About the ensemble

You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone on the Czech contemporary circus scene who can blend aerial acrobatics with visual art and architecture as mesmerizingly as Eliška Brtnická does. Don’t expect ordinary juggling or classic trapeze acts from her. Her domain is object theater and the exploration of unexpected possibilities in materials. In this project, she has joined forces with performer Mattia Comiss, and together they create a fragile, ever-changing world on stage, where ordinary building materials become equal dance partners.

About the production

Do you remember that irresistible childhood urge to build impregnable forts in the living room out of blankets, chairs, and pillows? The production BAU revisits this primal desire for a personal hideaway, but gives it a truly fascinating visual and physical dimension. You’re in for twenty-five minutes of pure theatrical poetry, where gravity, the human body, and seemingly ordinary panels resembling a giant building set take center stage.
Right before your eyes, temporary structures are born from the panels and then collapse. The performers glide through them, build homes from them, hide within them, and let them float into the air. BAU is a gentle, playful, yet deeply timely reflection on what it means for us to have a roof over our heads—at a time when, unfortunately, this is not a given for many people.
