About the ensemble
Eva Stará is a Czech performer, choreographer and teacher who has long been involved in contemporary dance, new circus and physical theatre. She is a co-founder of the company Holektiv and has collaborated with a number of independent venues such as Spitfire Company, Tantehorse, Burki&com, Studio TS Light and FysioART. In addition to her artistic work, she also teaches contemporary dance techniques, paired acrobatics and improvisation.
One of her key projects is the MASS trilogy, which explores various aspects of identity, self-awareness and the influence of contemporary society on our perception of ourselves. The trilogy includes the following parts:
- MASS - The first part of the trilogy premiered on October 14, 2021 at Theatre X10. This performance focuses on the themes of self-awareness and self-determination in relation to contemporary society and the influence of social networks on our perception of identity. Together with Jindřiška Křivánková, Stará combines physical theatre, dance and a strong visual component, while also using Křivánková's live voice and the music of Matúš Hekela. Critics have praised its timeliness and ability to reflect contemporary social phenomena.
- MASS.K - The second part of the trilogy works with masks as attributes and tools for transforming one's own identity, revealing hidden desires, inner moments and taboos.
- Wellmass - The third part of the trilogy, which focuses on the themes of self-care and wellbeing, was launched in 2024 in the basement of the Krenovka space. The performance guides the audience through a sensory-intensive experience and emphasizes authentic bodily experiences.
The MASS trilogy is a bold and provocative project that reveals the different layers of human identity and explores how society, the media and our own ideas of self shape us
About the show
Be yourself! You know what I mean?
How many masks do we try before we find ourselves? And do you love your face? One ego, one MC and you. An energetic street show attacking the search for the self in today's virtual world.
MASS is meat, but also mass. In its original meaning as a moment of connection and knowledge. MASS.K works with masks as attributes, tools for transforming our own identity into forms that are our own or that we want to hide behind. It is a project that uncovers hidden desires, inner moments and taboos. The "K" in its essence represents the abbreviation OK (All Correct), but also the opposite of the meaning (i.e. Knockout).
