About the ensemble
Academic Theatre Voskresinnia in Lviv was founded in 1990 on the wave of social transformations and restoration of Ukraine's independence. The new theatre was created as a result of an agreement between young actors from different Ukrainian cities who were not completely satisfied with the existing "somewhat" academic theatre. Yaroslav Fedoryshin, a graduate of the Faculty of Dramatic Arts at Kharkiv University and GITES in Moscow, a well-known artist and experienced theatre director, was appointed as the head of the new theatre. Voskresinnia Theatre quickly gained popularity, presenting world drama that had not been performed in Ukraine before. Gradually, the team combined traditional acting styles based on psychological introspection with modern visual form, developing their own specific theatrical formula.
About the show
A look at Ukrainian history told without words, through the fate of Taras Shevchenko, the great writer, poet, painter, prisoner of the labour camps and spiritual leader of the Ukrainian nation. The Lviv artists will present the dramatic experiences and situation of the Ukrainian people in their constant struggle for state independence, which is so relevant today in the dramatic wartime events in Ukraine. The colourful performance features performers on stilts and makes use of mobile machines, burning scenographic elements and pyrotechnic effects.
