About the ensemble
Teatr Migro is a Krakow-based company that has been creating performances for public space since 2019. It was founded by Monika Kozłowska and Justyna Wójcik, artists with experience from the renowned Teatr KTO. To collaborate, they invited colleagues who share a similar view of street theatre as a means of international and intercultural dialogue.
Teatr Migro's performance is based on movement, dance, mime and live music. They do not stop at the boundaries of language - they speak with body, gesture, rhythm and emotion. They stage their performances in squares, parks and streets - places where theatre comes to people.
In the five years of their existence, they have staged dozens of performances not only in Poland, but also in France, Romania, Lithuania, Estonia, Serbia, Slovakia and elsewhere. Their work is poetic, sensitive, yet topical - touching on themes of migration, identity, memory and home.
For the Za dveřmi festival they bring Echoes - a production about memory, journeys and things that remain.
About the show
The performance *Echo* is inspired by Agnieszka Pajączkowska’s book *Wędrowny zakład fotograficzny* (*The Traveling Photo Studio*) and focuses on the so-called Eastern Borderlands—territories that today belong to Ukraine, Belarus, or Lithuania, but were once part of the Polish cultural landscape.
The echoes tell of forgotten places, of people and objects that have remained even though the world around them has changed. They refer to the past, but ask questions towards the future - what do we remember, what do we pass on?
The performance features choreography based on the Gaga technique, developed by Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin. Gaga is a physical language that draws on an inner sense of movement and free expression. This gives rise to organic, authentic scenes on stage that have a powerful impact even without a single word.
Music plays an important role - sung live by the actors and drawing on regional songs and old prayers. The set design and costumes evoke an atmosphere of travel, wandering, searching and loss.
The performance will take place with the support of the Polish Institute in Prague.
