About the ensemble

There are some things you can count on in this ever-changing world. The sun rises every morning, a slice of bread always lands butter-side down, and the Behind the door festival wouldn’t be complete without the participation of The Trick Brothers. The duo of Adam Jarchovský and Václav Jelínek has long since transcended the label of mere jugglers. They are, above all, brilliant observers of human nature who, with gentle irony and precise physical comedy, bring to the stage characters in whom, with a bit of exaggeration, each of us can recognize ourselves.

Their productions don’t need lavish sets; they make do with ordinary everyday objects, which they transform into instruments of pure theatrical magic. Whether they’re wearing postal uniforms or sparkling swimsuits, their greatest asset remains their incredible ability to connect with the audience. They can make time stand still, make a square laugh until it cries, and remind us that the best theater is often born from the most absurd everyday situations.

About the production

You know that feeling when the city heats up so much in the summer that you could fry an egg on the asphalt? The Trick Brothers have the solution for moments like these. They throw on their sparkly pants and mesh tank tops and bring their own pool! Like modern-day Poseidons, they’ll stir up the festival waters with a brand-new, even more polished version of their hit show, Male mermaids. An ordinary inflatable pool instantly transforms under their hands into an ocean full of juggling tricks, splashing water, and unexpected visual gags.
Beneath the surface of this total summer romp, however, lies a clever eco-premise. Don’t expect any boring lectures with a moralizing finger, though! The brothers choose to save the plastic fish through first-rate clowning and massive exaggeration. With their characteristic ease, they draw both adults and the youngest children into the show, proving that environmental education can be done in a way that will have you holding your sides with laughter (and quite possibly getting a little wet in the process).
